40 Degree Heat

Ok.. If you are in Sydney right now, you will be feeling pretty hot. I just had a look on my desktop weather widget and it says 40! - Thankfully we have the fans on in the shop but I think most people are staying away from the street due to the heat. I can't believe it's still Spring!

3:51pm edit.
It is now 43 degrees... What the?

Our New Window Display

We love dressing up our window - It's so much fun! When it gets towards the end of the year, people start thinking about the people they love and buying them gifts, so we thought we'd help you all out by making our window a little more 'gift idea' friendly.

It took me a little while to make the 'mink schmink' sign, but I'm pretty happy with it!
If only gifts came in boxes that big :P
As you can see, we have our family of Barbies giving us a hand in the display.

And if only those were real candy canes... mmm

Oooh lots of goodies in the window!
Retro Style Clocks, Tatty Devine Art Jewellery, Marzio Fiorini Rubber Jewellery, Mink Schmink Designer Jewellery, Turtle Lamps, Grand Piano Jewellery box, and loads of fabulous costume.fashion jewellery.

New mink schmink acrylic jewellery,  rose rings and geometry bangles.
...And of course, the fabulous red lips jewellery box in faux patent leather.

From Russia with Love

They're baaaack.

A mink schmink favourite, these little russian beauties wiill definitely make you smile. Look at these earrings! They are so cute!

Also in the range are these babushka pins. There are more than 10 styles in stock and they range from groups of 5 in one colour, to 'family' sets with each little babushka painted differently.

And, because they are from Russia, it's no surprise that they make 'Santa' and 'Snowmen' pins too.

And if those were a little too cute for your liking, then you might like these large handpainted pins.

These will be available from tomorrow, and yes, these make awesome stocking fillers and Kris Kringle pressies (it's almost that time of the year again!). Prices range from $12.50 for a pair of earrings, to $35 for the large handpainted pins. Lots of styles and colours available so visit the store to see the range.

Sculpture by the Sea

Sculpture by the Sea is on again, and I can't believe I won't be able to go see it! It finishes after this weekend, so if you get a chance to do the Bondi-Tamarama walk to see all the fabulous sculptures, I highly recommend it.

If you are heading to Canberra this Summer, this is a must visit while you're there. The National Gallery of Australia is opening a new exhibition of historical and contemporary jewellery on 26 November 2009. To be launched in its newly refurbished exhibition space for their Decorative Arts and Design Collection, it will aim to show visitors works by Aussie and International artists and designers. There will be 110 selected pieces, which date from the mid-nineteenth century to today, so you will definitely find it inspiring.

But if you're more into contemporary, there will be some pieces from some of today's most influential jewellery designers as well as ouw very own home grown Aussie designers.

Hello Kitty Turns 35

Can you believe it? Hello Kitty has been around for 35 years now! From humble beginnings on notepads to the mega merchandising of today on virtually anything. Check out the evolution of this cute little character from Sanrio in their 35th anniversary video:

The Best Ribs and Curly Fries in Newtown

Had dinner at Amazon Steakhouse the other night and I gotta say, they make awesome ribs and awesome curly fries (drool worthy curly fries... they must sprinkle some secret ingredients on them 'cause they are to die for).

Newtown is littered with Thai restaurants, so to eat at a steakhouse was a pleasant change. And let's face it, sometimes you just need a plate of bbq ribs (unless your a vegetarian of course). Plus, the ambience was just right - friendly service, laid back but not too laid back, cool music in the background and cute little pink stirrers in my lemon lime and bitters.

I should've taken a picture of what I had - the half rack of smoked ribs with curly fries. Seriously, it was a generous serve! Admittedly, I had a little help finishing the plate off, but I loved the food. They obviously care about the quality of the food and service, judging from our experience there. I highly recommend them so if you're in Newtown for dinner you should try it.

Plus, if you are vegetarian/vegan, they have a pretty decent menu to cater to you too. Hmm, I'm getting hungry thinking about their food :P

Have you eaten there? Tell me what you think. I'd love to hear if anyone else has enjoyed their food too (especially the curly fries!)

Robot Love

We're always looking out for really cool things that we can stock in the shop, so when we came across these there was no hesitation. We fell in love with these collector toy robots (note: these aren't for kids in case you were wondering - strictly for grown ups since there are sharp-ish bits you wouldn't want your kids to scratch themselves on).

The black and red one has little sparks inside it's head when it walks and the larger red one has some rotating gizmos in it's head when it rolls along. Another thing that's great about these is the box it comes with - awesome graphics!
